Qualico’s new design centre, designQ, brings many of these interior selections together in one place, with the guided support of a professional designer. Our role at designQ is to help homeowners navigate the choices involved in building a new home and bring them together into a space that feels personal, cohesive and functional.

Personalising the details that matter most

Homeowners are becoming increasingly intentional about their selections. Rather than upgrading everything, they want to understand which choices will have the greatest impact on the look, feel and functionality of their home.

Flooring is one area where a thoughtful investment can make a significant difference. As the foundation of an interior, it helps establish the overall atmosphere and influences how other finishes work together. Luxury Vinyl Plank remains a popular upgrade because of its durability and the wide range of colours, textures and wood-inspired finishes available.

Countertops and tile are also important opportunities for personalisation. Natural stone and natural-stone-inspired surfaces continue to be highly desirable, particularly materials with organic movement and variation. Full-height backsplashes are increasingly popular, allowing the countertop material to become a larger architectural feature within the kitchen.

Large-format tile remains a strong choice, while textured, colourful and European- or vintage-inspired designs are bringing more character to kitchens and bathrooms. Greens and blues continue to resonate, offering a sense of calm and connection to nature.

Plumbing fixtures are being selected for both aesthetics and functionality. Warm bronze and brass finishes remain popular, while chrome and silver are seeing renewed interest for their timeless appeal. Shower functionality is also an important consideration, particularly for families planning for the future.

Some of the most worthwhile upgrades may not be the first things visitors notice. Improved storage, integrated garbage systems, upgraded carpet underlay and extending Luxury Vinyl Plank into additional areas can have a meaningful impact on everyday comfort.

Creating homes with character

One of the most exciting shifts in residential design is the move away from perfectly coordinated interiors. Homeowners are embracing spaces that feel layered, personal and collected.

Warm woods paired with stone-inspired surfaces, textured tile and mixed metal finishes can create a home that feels considered without being overly matched. Statement countertops and backsplashes are also being treated as architectural elements, adding depth and visual interest to kitchens.

When making selections, it is important to look at the whole picture. A countertop may appear very different alongside cabinetry, flooring and backsplash, so viewing materials together helps homeowners understand how the overall palette will come together.

It is equally important to consider how you live, as well as maintenance, lighting and long-term needs. Ultimately, good design is not about choosing more—it is about choosing well.

With professional guidance at designQ, homeowners can feel confident that their selections work together to create a home that balances beauty, function, lifestyle and long-term value.
